About Me
I’m James, a New York based actor, writer, and producer. I grew up in San Francisco raised by two very loving artists. My dad was a composer for film, TV, and video games and my mother was a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet. You could argue that I was doomed to be an artist from day one.
As a kid I always knew, deep down, that I wanted to be an actor “someday.” But I was also an aspiring baseball player with a love of literature, animals, juggling, music, technology, comics, magic, and just about everything in between. At 18, I was recruited to play baseball at Macalester College, where I was dead set on being a Creative Writing and Computer Science double major with a Theater minor. Or to put it more succinctly, I still wanted to do EVERYTHING! That all changed in the summer of 2019 in London, when I saw a production of Betrayal at the Harold Pinter Theatre. I was so moved that I walked out of the theater, smiling ear to ear and with a newfound conviction. I was on fire to learn how to do whatever magic I had just witnessed.
I auditioned for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s BFA Acting program the following year and was thrilled to be accepted. I moved to Scotland in August of 2020 (I know, what perfect timing) and from 2020-2023, I got to study acting with some of the finest instructors in the world. I trained in various acting crafts, Nadine George Voice Technique, Lecoq Movement, and worked with many world class guest lecturers, learning everything from acrobatics to theater funding basics. During my time at RCS, I discovered a real passion for Shakespeare which helped me to receive the Nora Cooper Mulligan Award given to one RCS drama student each year who excels at Verse Speaking. I was also the recipient of the Sir John Gielgud Bursary Award and selected to represent RCS at the AESS Competition in London, a spoken word contest between students across all the UK’s top drama schools, where I finished in 1st place.
Since graduating, I’ve lived in both the UK and the US where I’ve worked in TV, film, commercials, and theater. Some of my favorite recent projects have been Raindog which I produced and starred in, BBC’s The Chief where I guest starred as a juggling hippy, and SPARC Theater’s The Glass Menagerie in which I played the role of Jim the Gentleman Caller. I'm so grateful to have gotten to work on so many projects with such wonderful people. Every production I get to be a part of, my love for this art form grows deeper and deeper.
When I’m not acting, I’m most likely bouldering, playing chess (a little too obsessively), playing guitar or maybe piano (sadly never at the same time), or with my nose in a book. I’m not joking about the bouldering, if you’re ever looking for me just check your nearest climbing gym…
